With tough legs in smooth massive American oak, and an oak veneered tabletop, Cinderella stands firmly and will adapt to all kind of uses. I made Cinderella because I needed an ironing board that is both practical and beautiful, so you dont have to put it away, says Anna Kraitz. I love to iron all my clothes and linen; they stay fresh and the fabrics last longer, but I want something better than an unsteady flimsy board. I wanted to create a strong and stylish furniture piece that will be welcomed for its beauty in any setting.’ Anna Kraitz lets the ironing board of the closet to be transformed into a flexible multi-use furniture piece that will enrich any setting. She is once more challenging age-old furniture typologies by liberating the ironing board from its single-use life. Anna Kraitz works both as a designer and as an artist. No wonder that Cinderella was originally born out of research collaboration with an archaeologist. The project used anthropological theory and material culture studies to look at how different cultures relate to spotless cleanliness versus dirt and grime. Anna Kraitz take on her strive for an uncluttered home was to design Cinderella for the all-female interdisciplinary design show Misschiefs that has exhibited in Stockholm and in Milan. Truly an artist, Anna Kraitz has added an organically shaped little gem: a hand-sculpted nut joining the legs. Cinderella is made with sturdy and strong legs in solid oak, adjustable in four heights. The tabletop in oak veneer, and with a firm and softly rounded rim in massive oak, can be wrapped in a specially made enclosed heat-resistant textile that will dress up the tabletop when household work is about. ’Compact living is a mirror of our time where many want to live in the middle of cities, often in smaller apartments without lots of storage space’ says Anna Kraitz.’ Furniture should not be made for just one purpose and then put away, it shall adapt to different uses and will not be ashamed of its look.

'I choose the name Aria inspired by the opera and air itself', says Dögg Guðmundsdóttir, Icelandic designer based in Copenhagen. ‘It's like singing an air, and it does really fly like music, or a Frisbee if you like.' Aria was first shown at The Cabinetmaker's Autumn Exhibition in 2015 at the Øregaard Museum in Copenhagen. The version presented by Design House Stockholm has grown compared to the original, which had to contend with a mere 60 by 60 centimeters, and shared legs. ‘The two versions can nest together just like the originals, the lower one sliding partly in under its larger sibling.' Made in massive oak and kept together with strong lacquered iron plates underneath, Aria is available in two heights with different diameters. Choose between clear oak or colored versions, all with a Japanese quality dye rubbed into the oak to give a rich and smooth quality that allow the off-white and black version to expose the fine wood grain. ‘This is really a masterwork,' says a satisfied Anders Färdig, artistic director and founder of Design House Stockholm, ‘all in solid oak and with finely crafted details. The Japanese quality dye has been polished layer after layer into the wood.'
